Letter to the Editor: The lack of communication with snow removal shutting down Main Street
An unfortunate series of events led to much unnecessary frustration on Thursday January 29, 2026. Main Street Wareham was shut down for snow removal for the entire day and because of no prior notification a full day of patients had to be cancelled at the last minute. Patients whose family members had taken time from work to bring them in, or patients who had scheduled a Gatra ride to the office appointment had to go without care secondary to poor planning of snow removal on Main Street in Wareham.
Looking at it from another angle, my practice lost a day of revenue because of this lack of communication. Who will shoulder that financial burden?
Upon contacting Town Hall that day, I was informed by the Administrative Assistant that I should have either looked at the town website the night before (who does that nightly?) or should have signed up for text / phone call notifications.
My medical practice has been on Main Street since 2008. I was never notified of this “announcement service”. If one is not aware of an existing service, how can one be expected to sign up for it? I would suggest that the Town of Wareham notify all businesses that this service exists when business owners get and pay for their business certificates. That would ensure that all business owners are aware of this notification service.
I understand that we had an unprecedented amount of snow and removal was necessary, and as a member of this community, I thank the folks who worked so hard at it and cleared the mountains of white, but I expect a more thoughtful approach to treating Main Street businesses.
Sincerely,
Susan Dorry, DPM
