School’s out and summer is in on the last day of school
Early mornings, late-night cramming and worrying about grades is on pause for the summer as students hang up their backpacks for the next two months.
Wareham Public Schools dismissed students from their classrooms Monday, June 16 on the last day of the school year.
For students like to-be-seventh-grader Brenna Cardoza, the end of the school year brings a bit of sadness. She said she was going to miss seeing her friends and teachers.
"There were highs and there were lows but at the end of the day all the teachers are really nice and supportive," she said.
With big plans like camping, swimming and relaxation, Brenna said she is happy to sleep in. She brings no complaints from the school year as it was, "Absolutely amazing."
Zoey Grace will be a first grader next year and said she could not wait to leave school. A fan of bananas, math and lunch, Zoey said she liked vacations more than going to school.
"I don't like getting up early," Zoey said.
Brothers Jett and Jayce White are moving up to seventh grade in the fall. They said they liked hanging out with friends and their literature courses.
"Every single math, reading, ELA and science test — I hated tests," Jayce said.
"I hated waking up in the morning and all of the MCAS testing," Jett said. "And all of the friend drama."
The pair said that they're going to, "chill," this summer while at home.
"We probably don't have enough money. We were planning on going to Puerto Rico," Jayce said.
Jett said they do have plans closer to home.
"Maybe we'll go to New Hampshire, we haven't been there in a while," Jett said.
Yellow school buses peeled out of the parking lot bringing kids home for the summer. Children skipped out of school doors and away from any homework until classes resume Wednesday, August 27.
