Jun 12, 2025

Gregory Mattos, 37, of Mashpee was arraigned Tuesday, June 10 after allegedly recording a woman changing in the Target fitting rooms located at Wareham Crossing.

The Wareham Police Department was dispatched to the store Monday, June 9 after a shopper reported a man holding a black cell phone over the fitting room door for at least a minute.

Mattos had left the store before the victim reported the incident to Target personnel according to Wareham police. Store surveillance showed the suspect entering the fitting room at 2:33 p.m. and drove away on an orange and black moped.

Law enforcement located and arrested the suspect, later identified as Mattos while he was fishing in the vicinity of 1033 Main Street in Wareham. His cell phone was seized with a search warrant requested.

Mattos is registered as a Level 2 Sex Offender in the State of Massachusetts. Level 2 offenders have a moderate risk of re-offending and pose a moderate risk to the public, according to Mass.gov

Mattos was previously charged in 2016 with unlawful sexual surveillance at Wareham Crossing for taking "up skirt" photos of a shopper. At that time, Mattos was on bail for failing to register as a sex offender.

In 2019, Mattos was arrested on Cranberry Highway for failing to register as a sex offender once more.

After repeatedly offending, Mattos was placed on $5,000 cash bail and was ordered to stay away from Target store locations and have no contact with the victim. The Commonwealth requested Mattos be held on $50,000 cash bail.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 30 for a pre-trial conference.
