The Wareham Department of Natural Resources, Wareham and Onset Fire Departments assisted tall ships as they made their way through the Cape Cod Canal for the Sail250 event in Boston. The spectacle brings together tall ships and military ships in Boston for a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The celebration started in New Orleans in late May and stopped at cities along the East Coast as boats made their way north. To get to Boston, boats sailed through the Cape Cod Canal.
According to the Wareham Fire Department, Wareham fire boat Marine 4 and Assistant Chief Christopher Smith conducted escorts, responded to incidents and maintained safety zones as ships sailed through.
