Hazardous material spill closes Maritime Drive and Great Neck Road

The road was shuttered for hours due to the cleanup.
The Wareham Fire Department responded to a call about a box truck with a spill of an unknown substance in the back at approximately noon on Friday, June 13.
The fire department responded to the area of Maritime Drive and Great Neck Road to investigate the possible hazardous material.
Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response Team was ordered to the scene. Firefighters secured the area, while HAZMAT dealt with the spilled substance.
Crews were on the scene for a few hours before clearing, and the fire department reported that there was not any threat to the public.
The Wareham Fire Department could not immediately be reached for comment.
