Sweet beginnings: Bakery opens on Cranberry Highway

May 21, 2025

With the sound of a mixer in the background, the smell of sugar and display cases full of baked goods, Jojo's Bakery adds a bit of sweetness to East Wareham.

Located at 3147 Cranberry Highway, the pink themed spot hasn't been open for long. Yet the idea behind it has been in the works since the owner, Joann West, was small.

"I've been baking with my mother since I was little," West said. "So I've always baked for people."

Opening a bakery was always West's mothers dream — but she passed away before it could come true. The hummingbird in the logo for the store is in honor of her mother and the dream lives on every day West opens her doors for customers.

"My dad was sick of me and my grief and said, 'you're going to go do it,'" she said.

From there, things moved quickly.

West knew the owner of the building, quickly claimed the spot and after a few short months of planning and organizing — the business was up and running. She said a big part in starting was having her family's help.

Her father doubled as her business partner, and her nephew used his computer skills to get the store digital.

"My nephew, Jovan does all the tech stuff," she said. "He spent hours and hours updating the website and working with DoorDash."

The bakery gained traction on social media and has reaped the benefits with dozens of customers flooding in and wiping the displays clean. She said the positive comments made her feel amazing.

"I'm happy because I can make people happy," she said.

Each day customers can expect a different sweet treat based on whatever West comes up with in the morning. From cannolis to strawberry cupcakes, new items will circulate often and other popular ones like cookies and brownies will stay.

West said her goal would be to move to a bigger building, but she is satisfied with what she currently has. Seeing her grandchildren run in begging for treats has been an added bonus along with getting to know the community.

"The best thing is the smiles. People love it. It's quality over quantity," she said.

For now, she's happy to wake up every day and do something she loves.

"To do what I'm doing and to love what I'm doing, it's the best feeling in the world," she said.
